The annual August Shinkyu Shotokan tournament on August 25 was a relatively small competition this year but, as usual, a high-quality event. We had just three competitors representing our dojo and they only took part in kata. Yet they managed to take home a total of six medals at this event. Keshav, Gaku and Sophie took first in team kata. Gaku earned second in individual teen brown belt kata, behind teammate Keshav, who took first. Sophie did not compete in the individual event. Keshav was called back for the “brown belt grand champion” event, where his kata was compared to the two winners of the adult divisions. Keshav ended up with a silver in that event, for a total of 2 golds and a silver for the day.
Keeling Sensei was Chief Referee for this event, as he has been for all but one of the thrice-yearly Shinkyu tournaments over the past 18 years.
We will be taking part in several tournaments in the area in October & November.
