Just a couple of photos from the recent WTKO international summer camp. The first is of instructors from the camp (including our own Keeling Sensei). Dojo members who placed in the camp tournament (Matthew, Yong & Ekapol). And Matthew passed his shodan exam at the camp, becoming our newest and youngest black belt!
The Palo Alto Buddhist Temple’s annual Obon Festival is coming up the weekend of August 2-3. It’s a great Japanese cultural event, and we encourage everyone to check it out. Sunday, August 3rd at 2:00 pm our group will do a karate demonstration. Please contact Sensei if you can help out with the demonstration.
All dojo members are invited to our summer dojo party on Saturday, July 26th from noon at Greer Park in Palo Alto. This is just a few blocks from the Buddhist Temple. The party will be a pot-luck. Please bring your family & friends to join us!
Shinkyu Shotokan, organizers of the beach training scheduled for Santa Cruz this Sunday, July 13th, have announced that unfortunately the event will have to be cancelled. The organizers extend an apology as this has been a tradition for 14 years, but there were various complicating factors that conspired to force the cancellation this evening.
Area Shotokan black belts are invited to participate in our special Instructors’ Classes. Next session is Feb 8 (Saturday), 8:30-11:00 am at SVSK dojo in Redwood City. We focus on becoming better instructors; not simply training harder or learning more complex kata (which we may also do…).
We will have our annual “Shotokan Kata Review” in our Redwood City dojo on Saturday, January 11, 8-10 am. In this two hours, we will do at least 27 kata, twice each. Everyone who knows at least a few Shotokan kata is welcome to attend. Just $10 fee for non-members!
