April 15 tournament recap

Silicon Valley Karate had a total of 16 competitors at Shinkyu Shotokan’s annual youth tournament.

black belt boys kata: 1st place (Matthew)
brown belt girls kata: 2nd place (Sophia), 3rd place (Victoria)
purple and brown belt boys kata: 2nd place (Achilles) 4th place (Jacob)
purple belt boys kumite: 5th place (Achilles)
purple belt girls kata: 2nd place (Eri), 1st place (Emily), 2nd place (Sophie), 3rd place (Kailee)*
green belt boys kata:
green belt girls kata: 1st place (Kallisti), 3rd place (Louise)
orange belt boys kata: 2nd place (Ryan)
orange belt girls kata: 3rd place (Tamara), 3rd place (Jayalakshmi)*
yellow belt boys kata: 2nd place (Sasha)
yellow belt girls kata: 1st place (Aireka for younger kids), 1st place (Avril for older kids)
purple &  brown belt team kata: 2nd place (Sophia, Sophie & Kailee)
green belt team kata: 4th place (Kallisti, Louise and Uta)
orange belt team kata: 2nd place (Jayalakshmi, Ryan and Tamara)

*Please note that tournament organize age groups and levels in various ways. In this tournament, for example, they separated similar age groups for purple belts into two separate divisions, as there were many competitors at that rank. As usual, at this tournament some divisions were large and some were small. The brown belt boys had a large division for kata but very small for kumite, for example.

Please note that in addition to competitors from our dojo, we also had several of our black belts judging. Sensei Keeling is always Chief Referee at these tournaments and also from our dojo were Senseis Matthew, John and Kostas.
